Today an unannounced complaint investigation was conducted with the Center's Principal's-Ms. Amanda regarding inappropriate behavioral guidance, toilet/potty procedures and handwashing.After carefully, interviewing all involved parties this complaint was deemed valid. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B Complaint related: No Description: Based on observation of the physical plant, cleaning agents were found in a cabinet with the safety latch unlocked. Evidence In the toddler's classroom, cleaning agents were found unlocked. Plan of Correction: Principal immediately locked the cabinet and stated that the classroom is currently getting the window fixed so the students are in another room.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-400-B Complaint related: Yes Description: Based on interview with staff, staff failed to provide behavioral guidance constructive in nature, age and stage appropriate while redirecting a child to use the potty. Evidence: On 5/14 a staff member was observed attempting to redirect and get a child to use the potty however the staff member did not use a tone or behavior guidance that was appropriate to the child's age and stage appropriate. Staff was observed yelling and using a tone that did not appear to be appropriate. Plan of Correction: Principal stated that staff will be individual trained on positve redirecting and assisting children when using the bathroom.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-500-A Complaint related: Yes Description: Based on interview with staff, staff failed to ensure that the childs hands were washed with soap and water after using the bathroom. Evidence: On 5/14 a child was observed using the potty however the child's hands were not washed after use. Plan of Correction: Principal will retrain staff on proper hand washing policies and techniques.
