An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted from 2:15 p.m.-4:00 p.m. with the director. Thirty five children ranging in age from 16 months through 5 years were in the care of five staff. The children were observed having rest time, eating afternoon snack, listening to a readaloud, and engaging in an alphabet activity. Three children's records were reviewed and in compliance. Three staff records were reviewed and in compliance. The fire and health inspections are up-to-date. The last fire drill was 7/14/15. The last shelter-in-place drill was 3/24/15. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-560-F Description: Based on observation of snack time, the facility did not follow the most recent, age-appropriate nutritional requirements of a recognized authority such as the Child and Adult Care Food Program of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) which requires two food components to be served for snack. Evidence: The children were served graham crackers and Hawaiian Punch. The Hawaiian Punch label indicated that it contained 5% fruit juice. A fruit juice must be 100% fruit juice to be considered a component of a meal. Plan of Correction: If we use fruit juice, we will assure it's full-strength and 100% juice. Otherwise, we will be sure to have at least another qualified component for snack.
