Comments:
Thank you for your time and assistance with the unannounced monitoring inspection conducted on September 22, 2015. The on-site visit was from 9:15 a.m. to 1:25 p.m. On this date, there were twenty-one (21) children present in the two morning classes and there were eleven (11) children present in the one afternoon class. A total of four (4) staff members were present, along with three college students. The total enrollment for all classes was forty-one (41) children. The exception to compliance was noted on the violation notice and the risk rating for the violation noted on the supplemental page. There were four (4) staff members' records reviewed and four (4) children's records reviewed. Four (4) staff members and two (2) children were interviewed. The medication and medication paperwork were reviewed for one child. The children seemed to be adjusting well to the daily routine. All interactions between the staff and the children were age-appropriate and positive. The children seemed to enjoy making corn muffins for their snack. Morning snack was observed to meet USDA guidelines. Arrival procedures, opening circle time, small motor activities, art activities, choice time, story time, singing, hand washing and bathroom procedures, diapering procedures, snack, outdoor play, and dismissal procedures were observed during the visit. Please contact me if you have questions concerning this inspection, the licensing standards, and/or if I may be of assistance to you (540) 280-0742.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-500-B
Description: Based on observation and verification from staff, a staff member failed to properly use the diaper receptacle when disposing of dirty diapers. Evidence: 1. After diapering two children on 09/22/2015, Staff Member C used her hand to open the lid to the foot-operated diaper pail when disposing of the diapers. 2. Staff Member C confirmed she did not use the foot-pedal to open the diaper pail.

Plan of Correction: After reviewing proper diapering techniques, the staff will now use the foot-pedal to open the diaper pail so that their hands do not touch the exterior surface of the receptacle.
