Discussed ratios and how important it is for staff to keep subs at site to cover their center. Discussed having a copy of the schools fire and health inspection available on site.
59 children present with 3 staff for the first hour of the inspection. A specialist from the main office arrived at 4 to cover the center so they would be back in ratio. The children are doing homework playing games, building and making a store, drawing and playing with cars. A group also went to the gym. Lots of interaction between staff and children. Today's snack is apple cinnamon bars and string cheese. This visit was started at 3:00 and ended at 4:00. Please call me at 703-203-8659 if you have any questions regarding this visit.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-70-A Description: The center failed to locate the emergency contact information for the three staff at the site. Evidence: Based on the review of records and the interview with staff , the staff filled out the emergency contact forms but could not locate them at the time of the visit. Plan of Correction: We will fill out new forms if I do not locate them by tomorrow.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-260-A Description: The center failed to have an annual fire inspection report available. Evidence: The school fire inspection could not be reviewed during the visit, none of the office staff were available and the site did not have a copy. Plan of Correction: I will check with teh school office and keep a copy at the site.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-350-E-5 Description: The center failed to keep a ratio of 1:18 during the visit. Evidence: Based on observation during the visit and interview with staff the following was observed. At 3 when the inspector arrived the center had 59 children , ages 5-11, with 3 staff making the center out of ratio by 5 children. A floating teacher had been at the center but left at 2:55 to cover another site. At 3:20 the center supervisor called the main office to let them know licensing was at the center and the office located a specialist who arrived at the center at 4. The center was out of ratio from 2:55 to 4:00. Plan of Correction: I will discuss this with the main office and explain that subs and floaters can't leave if I have more children.
