22VAC40-191 Background Checks (22VAC40-191)

An unannounced monitoring inspection was initiated today at 11:45am. The physical plant, 3 staff files, 4 children's files, annual fire inspection, children's activities, emergency procedures, drills and supplies were inspected today. There were 15 children under the supervision of 3 teachers. During the inspection, children were observed working on spelling words, participating in a group activity and preparing to go outside to enjoy free play. Each child brings a lunch from home daily. The interactions between the children and staff were seen to be positive and constructive in nature. There are no children with any medication needs during program hours at this time. Description: Based on observations, there was a hazardous substance accessible to a child in care. Evidence 1. Upon arriving to the Pre-School room, the Licensing Inspector saw a child sitting at a table in the hallway. On the table was a small, open can of polyurethane. There was no teacher using the product or directly supervising the child. The child have full access to the can and its contents.

Plan of Correction: The Site Director will make sure that all hazardous substances are kept out of reach of children.

Description: Based on observations, not all children in care were within actual sight and sound supervision. Evidence 1. Upon arriving to the Pre-school room, the Licensing Inspector saw a child sitting at a table in the hallway, just outside of the classroom. The classroom door was open, but when the LI stood next to the child, there were no teachers that could see the child.

Plan of Correction: Shortly after the LI went into the classroom, a teacher came back to the hallway. The Site Director was informed of this. She will make sure that all staff keep children within sight and sound supervision at all times.
