22VAC40-191 Background Checks (22VAC40-191)
An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted today from 10:25am-12:30pm. There were 33 children (infant-5yrs.) directly supervised by 7 staff. The physical plant, 4 staff records, 4 children?s records, evacuation drills, injury reports, emergency supplies, and policies were inspected. There were no medications on site today. Children were observed playing outside on the playground, painting an art project with the color orange, and playing independently. There was an adequate number of staff with current certification in MAT, CPR and First Aid, as well as DHO training. Staff-to-child ratios were in compliance. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the Violation Notice. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A Description: Based on direct observation, outside areas of the center were not maintained in a clean, safe and operable condition. Evidence: 1. Exposed nails were observed on two areas of the fence where gaps between the boards were present on the younger children's playground. 2. Jagged edges were observed on the several corners of the aluminum borders/columns of the building leading to the older children's playground (outside of the 3's classroom). Plan of Correction: A work order has already been placed.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B Description: Based on direct observation, hazardous substances were not kept in a locked place. Evidence: 1. A spray bottle of glass cleaner, 3 spray bottles of a disinfectant solution, and a spray bottle of floor cleaner was observed in an unlocked cabinet in the Infant B classroom, which was not in use. The cabinet did have a lock, however, the lock does not work. 2. A spray bottle of glass cleaner and 2 spray bottles of a disinfectant solution were observed in an unlocked cabinet in the Discovery Preschool classroom. Plan of Correction: The substances were locked during the inspection.
