Today we discussed standards related to children's physical reports.
An unannounced monitoring inspection of building 1 inside and outside was conducted from 10:40am - 12:30pm. It is reported that building 2, the elementary school building, is not used any portion of the licensed program including after school care. There were 21 children present with four teaching staff, and 1 administrator. Four children?s records were reviewed. There were not any new staff records to review. Interviews were conducted with children and staff present. Children were observed in teacher and self-directed activities including outside play, transitions, restroom routines and lunch. The inspector reviewed current insurance documentation, fire and health inspections and emergency evacuation drills. A walking tour of the outside play space was conducted. Three diaper preparations and 13 topical over-the-counter skin products were reviewed. Transportation is provided by parents to and from the center daily. Violations were found in the following areas and are cited on the violation notice: equipment and over-the-counter skin products.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A Description: Based on observation and interview the center failed to ensure that equipment shall be maintained in safe condition. Evidence: 1 - There is shelf in the "toddler room" that measures 2feet 7 inches tall. The shelf is not secured to the wall and poses a toppling hazard. 2 - Staff 1 confirmed that the shelf is not secured to the wall. Plan of Correction: Center management will ensure that shelf is secured to the wall.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-520-D Description: Based on observation and interview the center failed to ensure that if insect repellent is used all requirements are implemented. Evidence: 1 - There are 2 insect repellent sprays/lotions that are not labeled with a child's name on the bottle. 2 - There are 7 insect repellent sprays/loctions that do not have written authorizations. 3 - Staff 1 confirmed that 2 insect repellent sprays/lotions are not labeled with a child's and 7 do not have authorizations. Plan of Correction: Center management will ensure that all sprays and lotions without written authorization will be returned to parents. Sprays and lotions that are not labeled will be discarded today.
