When transitioning children, staff to child ratios must be met according to the age of the youngest child in the group.
An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted today from 9:50am-11:15am. There were 50 children (infants-5yrs.) directly supervised by 8 staff. The physical plant, 4 staff records, 4 children?s records, medications, evacuation drills, injury reports, emergency supplies, and policies were inspected. Children were observed having story time, playing independently, and preparing for lunch. Diapering and hand-washing procedures were also observed. There was an abundant supply of materials for the children. There was an adequate number of staff with current certification in MAT, CPR and First Aid, as well as DHO training. The center was clean and organized. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the Violation Notice. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-500-A Description: Based on direct observation, staff and children's hands were not washed after diapering. Evidence: After diapering a child, the teacher did not wash their hands or the child's hands. The teacher was wearing gloves while diapering; however, afterwards, the teacher was observed picking up another child to console them while still wearing the gloves that were used during diapering. Plan of Correction: Director will talk to staff about sanitation rules for staff and kids.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-500-B Description: Based on direct observation, staff did not sanitize the diapering surface after each use. Evidence: After diapering a child, the teacher did not sanitize the diapering surface. Plan of Correction: Director will talk to staff about disinfecting and go over disinfecting procedures.
