Discussed the following standard: medication.
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today. Observed 93 children directly supervised by 15 staff members. Ratios and supervision were in compliance. A sample of 2 staff records, and 2 children's records were reviewed. The physical plant, medications, emergency supplies and procedures were also reviewed. The children were engaged in various activities, to include: circle time, reading, art projects, free play, hand washing, snack time, music class, and diapering. Areas of non-compliance are identified in this report. The exit interview was conducted with one of the school's administrator. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B Description: Based upon observations made, hazardous substances were not kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children. Evidence: 1) One bottle of hand sanitizer was on top of a cabinet near the sink in the older two's classroom. 2) One bottle of hand sanitizer was on top of the window sil in the two's classroom. 3) A total of two spray bottles containing bleach and water were in both of the two year old bathrooms on a hook. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-C Description: Based upon documentation and a review of medications, long-term prescription medication and over-the-counter medication did not have written authorization from the child's physician and parent. Evidence: 1) A long term emergency medication for Child A (EpiPen) did not have a written authorization from the child's parent. 2) An over-the-counter medication for Child B did not have a written authorization from the child's physician.
