Comments:
The licensing inspector conducted an unannounced renewal inspection from 9:25am - 11:15am. There were fifteen preschool children in care with two staff and one volunteer. The children were observed at story time, playing on the playground and participating in a lock down at the school. Two staff and three children's records were reviewed. Violations from the previous inspection were also reviewed and all had been corrected; however, there was a repeat violation of standard 270-A. Areas of non-compliance are identified on the violation notice. If you have any questions, please contact your licensing inspector at (276) 608-3758. Thank you for your cooperation.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A
Description: Based on observation, the center failed to maintain the facility in a safe condition. Evidence: 1. The inspector observed the lattice on the stair railing leading to the playground. A piece of lattice has come loose on the right side of the railing. This piece of exposed wood has staples in it with sharp edges that could snag skin.

Plan of Correction: The teacher said that staff will glue the wood back in place to cover the staples. If the wood glue does not secure the lattice, a request will be made for maintenance to repair the lattice. Staff will monitor the center for needed maintenance.
