22VAC40-185 SPECIAL CARE PROVISIONS AND EMERGENCIES.

Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection of the facility inside and outside and records was conducted from 12:00noon through 1:10pm. There were 13 children present with 2 staff. Three children?s records were reviewed. Interviews were conducted with children and staff. Staff records are stored at a central location and will be reviewed at a later date. Children were observed in teacher and self-directed activities including lunch, stories, transitions, and restroom routines. The inspector reviewed current insurance documentation, fire and health inspections and emergency evacuation drills. Medication authorizations were reviewed. With parent written permission some children are transported to and from the center daily. Parent authorizations were reviewed during record review. On 2/26/16 two staff records and four board member/agent background checks were reviewed. The following violation was found in the following area and is cited on the violation notice: emergency equipment.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-540-E
Description: Based on observation and interview the center failed to ensure that a battery operated radio is available. Evidence: 1- The battery operated rated was requested at 12:47pm. At the conclusion of the inspection, 1:10pm a battery operated radio was still not available. 2 - Staff 1 confirmed that the designated emergency radio was not operational.

Plan of Correction: Center management will ensure that a battery operated radio is operational and available whenever children are in care.
