22VAC40-185 SPECIAL CARE PROVISIONS AND EMERGENCIES.
An unannounced inspection was conducted today due to a information received from management. On January 19, 2016 the center exceeded the established capacity and age range allowed when children from Bright Start Learning Center were moved in the building. The capacity of 40 was exceeded by 12 children during the day. Included among the children that were relocated to the center, was one child that was not yet aged 2 1/2. The center had a child present that did not meet the allowable age range for the facility. Other violations, that were not complaint related, were found during the course of the investigation.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-40-E Complaint related: Yes Description: Based upon multiple staff statements, and a review of documentation, the center was out of compliance with the terms and conditions of the license. Evidence: *On January 19, 2016, the center had children present that were under the allowable age range of 2 & 1/2 years. There was one child present that was under 2 & 1/2 years old. The age range is established by the Building Official. (Child 1- Date of Birth 1/13/14). *On January 19, 2016, the center exceeded the licensed capacity of 40, when classrooms from Bright Start Learning Center were moved to the facility. Based upon multiple staff statements and a review of attendance sheets, the total number of children present during the day reached 52. In addition to the 31 children enrolled in the center, 21 children (Giraffes and Bugs) from Bright Start Learning Center were present. Plan of Correction: We will not move children unless we are within the capacity and age ranges required by each building.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A Complaint related: No Description: Based upon direct observation, the physical plant is not maintained in a safe condition. Evidence: *There is peeling paint in the penguins room along the window sill near the reading area. * There are 2 broken tiles in the Owls room by the door. Plan of Correction: The handyman will be here this weekend to fix the paint. I will contact a flooring person to repair the tiles.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-320-B Complaint related: No Description: Based upon direct observation, the water temperature exceeds 120 degrees. Evidence: Both bathroom sinks have a water temperature that registered at 127.6 degrees. Plan of Correction: I will contact the maintenance person today to have the temperature reduced.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-550-D Complaint related: No Description: Based upon a review of documentation, 2 shelter-in-place drills were not conducted in 2015. Plan of Correction: Two shelter-in-place drills will be conducted this year.
