The majority of this inspection was spent in the newly constructed infant area. (June Bugs) Present today were ten infants with four staff. When the inspector first arrived, eight children were outside being strolled around the block. Two staff were in the classroom with the other two infants. Staff were observed assisting infants to sleep, feeding the children, changing diapers and monitoring daily charts. The children were being helped, spoken to frequently by staff, and staff were viewed sitting on the floor engaging with individual children and encouraging positive interactions between children. The classroom is divided into a sleeping area and a play area. When infants are sleeping, a staff person is present in the area.
Present today were three children and one staff in the Fire Flies Classroom (16-24 months). There were seven two year old children with two staff and fourteen three year old children with two staff. Thirteen Pre-K children were with two staff. Observations in these classrooms included children listening to : Horton Hatches the Egg" , children identifying animals and sounds, children discussing going to the doctor and showing the inspector the "medical bags" each child had displayed on the wall, lunch time and transition to nap time.
The back playground now has an area separate for two year old children that is fenced with age appropriate gross motor equipment. The front fenced playground is being prepared for parents and their children, as well as infants, to enjoy.
Lunch: Meatballs, mixed vegetable, applesauce, bread and milk.
