Comments:
An unannounced renewal inspection was initiated today at 11:30am. The physical plant, 3 staff files, 4 children's files, annual fire inspection, staff training, children's activities, medications, emergency procedures, drills and supplies were inspected today. There were 18 children under the supervision of 3 staff. During the inspection, children were observed participating in circle time, singing songs, preparing to go outside and playing on the playground area. The children bring in their lunches each day they are in care. The interactions between the children and staff were seen to be positive and constructive in nature. There is currently 1 staff certified in MAT (medication administration training) and 2 staff certified in First Aid and CPR. Should you have any questions, please contact me at mary.wizbicki@dss.virginia.gov.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-C
Description: Based on file review and observations, the center failed to follow all procedures for administering medications. Evidence 1. Child #1 has a medication authorization for benedryl and an epi-pen in case of emergency. There is no benedryl available on site to be administered.

Plan of Correction: The administrator sent the parent an email during the inspection asking for the Benedryl to be brought to the center.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-550-D
Description: Based on file review and interview, the center did not practice an evacuation drill every month children are in care. Evidence 1. The evacuation drill log has a Shelter-In-Place drill having been conducted on January 19th, 2016. However, there was no evacuation drill completed or recorded during this month.

Plan of Correction: We will make sure to complete an evacuation drill every month, whether or not a shelter-in-place is completed.
