Technical Assistance:
The medication for one child was written "to be returned to parent 5/17" - a center has 14 days to return it or dispose of it.

Comments:
An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted today from 3:30 - 4:45 pm. There were 13 children present with two staff. I observed children arriving from class, eating snack and beginning routines. There were a number of inviting activities available in all centers. I also observed a very patient, calm staff member use a great deal of professionalism while following procedures in pursuit of the whereabouts of a 5th grader who hadn't arrived from elementary school. Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-60-A
Description: A review of a sample of records today found that two children were missing required items. Evidence: Child 1 had no physical or immunization available today. Child 2 had only one emergency contact listed.

Plan of Correction: We will talk to the parents.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A
Description: During today's inspection, a piece of equipment was not found to be in an operable condition. Evidence: Children's files and medications had been relocated to the floor level of a supply closet due to the broken lock on the staff desk, making access to files and medication difficult for staff but more available to children when the supply closet was observed in use throughout the day.

Plan of Correction: We will call again to request a new desk or a repaired lock.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-550-E
Description: During today's review of records, it was found that there was an inadequate number of evacuation drills conducted for this year. Evidence: There was no fire drill documented for April .

Plan of Correction: We did a fire drill but forgot to document it.
