Comments:
The Piedmont Licensing Office received an initial application for a license to operate a child day center due to a change in ownership. This LI conducted announced inspections in the Center on July 26 and 27, 2016. A tour of the Center was conducted on July 26th inspection and measurements of each area to be used by the children were verified. The inspection on July 27th consisted of a review of the Center's policies and procedures and consultation with the Administrator and Program Director. A discussion was held regarding the required documentation for the administration of a prescribed as-needed medication and physician's orders. The LI observed the outdoor play grounds, mulch was being replenished at the time of the inspection in the area of the swings. Class rooms in building 2 were being painted. This LI will recommend a Conditional license. Thank you.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-A
Description: Based on review of written medication policies, the Center's policies failed to include all procedures for administering medications as defined in Standard 22VAC40-185-510.C. 2. - 4. Evidence: The LI reviewed the Center's policies, the procedures did not address methods to ensure the administration of nonprescription medication is consistent with the manufacturer's instructions for age, duration and dosage; methods to ensure the written authorization to administer a medication is current and signed appropriately for short-term or long-term administration; and methods to prevent use of outdated medications.

Plan of Correction: The Administrator and Program Director will review and revise the policies to address the Center's procedures for administering prescription and nonprescription medications.
