22VAC40-191 Background Checks (22VAC40-191)
This unannounced renewal inspection was conducted from 10:30 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. At the time of the inspection 29 children were in care with seven staff members present. The sample size consisted of three children's records, four staff records, and one medication. Children and staff were observed during free indoor and outdoor play, clean-up, lunch, and nap. Staff were observed during arrival, transitions, and behavioral guidance. The violations from the previous inspection were reviewed to ensure current compliance. No repeat violations were found. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A Description: Based on observation, a couch used by children was not kept in a safe and operable condition. Evidence: The small blue couch in the back classroom was torn exposing the absorbent sponge. Plan of Correction: The teacher fixed the couch with tape while inspector was still on site. If it shows anymore tears it will be thrown away and replaced.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-420-E-3 Description: Based on interview, the administrator failed to provide at least semiannually in writing information on school age children's development, behavior, adjustment, and needs.
The administrator stated they offer semiannual information for parents for all children at the center except for school age children.
Plan of Correction: Director and assistant director will implement school age progress reports and offer two parent teacher conferences when the other age groups are offered in the fall and spring.
