Comments:
Thank you for your assistance during this unannounced renewal inspection. This on-site visit was conducted on September 20, 2016 from 10:30 a.m. through 12:40 p.m. On this date, there were twelve (12) children in the care of two (2) staff members in one classroom. There are a total of thirteen (13) children enrolled in this program. Five (5) children's records were reviewed. Two (2) staff records were reviewed and updated on September 22, 2016 from 1:00 p.m. through 2:45 p.m. The medication and medication paperwork was reviewed for two children. Areas of non-compliance may be found on the violation notice. Risk scores were discussed. Areas observed were educational activities, free choice activity, transition, lunch, hand washing and bathroom procedures, story time, and outside play. All interactions between staff and the children were appropriate and the children seemed comfortable with the daily routine. There are a wide variety of age/stage materials for the children in care. Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B
Description: On air freshener was located on a shelf by the classroom door and not in a locked place. Evidence: Based on observation and conversation with the staff it was confirmed the air freshener was not in a locked place.

Plan of Correction: The air freshener was removed and will not be used in the classroom.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-500-A
Description: One child did not wash their hands after using the bathroom. Evidence: Based on observation and conversation with the staff it was confirmed one child did not wash their hands after using the bathroom.

Plan of Correction: Staff will group children and schedule bathroom breaks periodically throughout the day. Hand washing will be observed.
