Standard #: 22VAC40-185-400-A Description: Based on interviews conducted, it was determined that a staff person working in the school-age classroom did not interact with children in order to promote the child's physical, intellectual, emotional, and social well-being and growth. Evidence: 1. Child #4, a 9 year-old, stated, "...the kids try to tell [Staff #2] and [Staff #3] when he does stuff, but he shuts the door and stands in front so they can't tell..." 2. Parent #1 stated, "...I have heard from kids that they try to tell [Staff #2] about the stuff he (Staff #1) is doing to them, but that he (Staff #1) will not let them open the door to get help..." Standard #: 22VAC40-185-400-B Description: Based on interviews conducted, it was determined that a staff person working in the school-age classroom did not use behavioral guidance that was constructive in nature, age and stage appropriate, and intended to redirect children to appropriate behavior and resolve conflicts. Evidence: 1. One of three staff interviewed, one parent interviewed, and four of four children interviewed from the school-age class, reported incidents of Staff #1 using inappropriate behavior guidance, and preventing children from telling others about the incidents. 2. On 8/1/16, Staff #1 chased Child #1, 5 years old, after the child knocked balls from a storage rack, and then put the child in a trash can. One staff that was present outside at the time stated, "...[Staff #1] chased [Child #1] after she knocked playground balls from a ball rack...they ran around the corner of the center and I couldn't see them...they were gone for a minute or so..." Child #1, stated, "...he dumped me in the trash can outside...I felt dirty..." and explained that Staff #1 put her in a trash can that contained garbage when they were around the corner and behind the center. 3. Child #3, a 9 year-old, stated that one day in July 2016, Staff #1 picked up Child #2, a 11 year-old, and put the child in a trash can after the child yelled at Staff #1. Child #2 described the incident as, "...he (Staff #1) picked me up and put me in the trash can because I was yelling back at him..." Plan of Correction: Not available online. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-410-1 Description: Based on interviews conducted, it was determined that a staff person working in the school-age classroom roughly handled and restricted the movement of children. Evidence: 1. Three children confirmed specific incidents of Staff #1 handling children roughly. 2. Child #1 stated, "...he (Staff #1) made me sit down by putting his arms on me and pushing down...he did pick me up by the arms and put me in the trash can sitting down...I felt dirty...he dragged me by my arm..." 3. Child #2 stated, "...he (Staff #1) grabbed me because I was mad at a friend...he crossed my arms and held me..." 4. Child #3 stated, "...he (Staff #1) pushed [Child #4] onto the floor because he was yelling at [Staff #1]...[Child #4] asked why he did that and [Staff #1] stated 'because you're not listening...[Child #4] balled-up on the floor for 5 minutes..." 5.
