Technical Assistance:
National fingerprinting background check requirements go into effect on September 30, 2017.

Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today. There were 26 children in care, with a total of 3 staff members assigned to their direct supervision. In addition, two co-op parents were actively involved with the children in each classroom. The classrooms are well-equipped with a variety of materials. Creative programming and a creative use of materials was observed in each classroom. The children were observed painting Fall pictures, making tissue paper trees, engaging in child directed Transportation discussions, eating snack, and playing outside. This inspection was completed between approximately 9:45 am and 11:10 am. Thank you for meeting with me today. Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-70-A
Description: Based on a review of new staff records, it was determined that one record is not complete. Evidence: The record for Staff A does not include documentation to show that she possesses the qualifications required for her to be employed in her role of Lead Teacher.

Plan of Correction: I will remind her to bring copies of her qualifications.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B
Description: Based on observations, it was determined that one potentially hazardous substance was not locked. Evidence: The door to the hallway storage closet was found to be unlocked and open. Inside the closet was one spray bottle of cleaning solution.

Plan of Correction: The door will be closed and locked.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-330-B
Description: Based on observations, it was determined that there is not adequate level of resilient surfacing in many fall zone areas on the playground. Evidence: In the following areas, there is not an adequate level of mulch: at the bottom of the slides, beneath the swings, beneath the dome ladder, and beneath the dome climber. In addition, three rubber playground tires have been placed in the fall zone area of the dome climber.

Plan of Correction: The mulch will be raked from other areas of the playground. The playground tires will be moved before children use the playground.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-J
Description: Based on observations, it was determined that one medication was not locked. Evidence: The lock box containing one child's medication inside the cabinet in the Yellow classroom was not locked.

Plan of Correction: The box was locked during the inspection and will be kept locked.
