Today we discussed required postings, shelter-in-place and block grant required training.
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today between 10:25am and 12noon. There were 23 children in care ages 2 through 5 years. There were four teaching staff present. New children and staff records were reviewed. The facility was inspected inside. There are three rooms being used for licensed care. Center administration reports that the second building is not used for the licensed program. It is also reported that there is not any medication being administered nor are children in care transported by the center. Children were observed in teacher and self-directed activities including snack and independent work/tasks. There was one violation observed regarding the use of a space heater. The violation may be viewed on the violation notice.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-B Description: Based on observation and interview the center failed to ensure that heat is supplied from an approved heating system. Evidence: 1 - There is a space heater plugged in and the power switch is in the on position, in the front office. 2 - Staff 1 confirmed that the space heater was present because she sometimes is cold in the office. Plan of Correction: Corrected during the inspection. The space heater was removed from the office and will no longer be used.
