- Technical Assistance:
Technical assistance today included bathroom supervision; kitchen access and crib spacing in the infant area.
An unannounced monitoring inspection took place today from 10:30 am - 1:00 pm. There were five classrooms present with 51 children and 9 direct staff. I observed children participating in a storytime activity; eating lunch; and transition to naptime. The newly painted/decorated classrooms and areas look friendly and inviting. Record keeping and medications were well-organized and complete today. Responses to violations were given by the director. If you have any quest ions, please contact me at email@example.com
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A Description: During today's inspection, some areas of the center were observed not to be maintained in a clean, safe, operable condition. Evidence: Indoors: The moulding under the counter in the toddler room was badly damaged, with dry rot seen at floor level. The faucet in the same room where children wash their hands was observed to be loose. The hall closet wooden doors were not secure as they have no lower railing to keep them from moving. A small grey rug in one classroom was slippery to anyone walking across it. Outdoors: There were sharp areas where the siding was cracked at child height. The material at the top of the highest stair on both playground structures was noticeably torn at the angle. The "hubcap" wheels on one of the play cars were sharp where it had cracked. Plan of Correction: Work orders will be sent to Facilities Management. Some work orders have already been sent. The order for the hall closet is from June. The rug will have some material put on it to keep it from slipping. Siding and playground cracks will be covered with duct tape until they can be fixed. The car will be removed.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-490-B Description: During today's inspection, a sick child was observed to not be in a designated quiet area as required. Evidence: When children were finishing lunch in the toddler room, they were interacting with a child who had a fever and was lying on a cot in the classroom. Plan of Correction: The child was removed and his cot was put with a staff member in the office.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-J Description: During today's inspection, one child's medication was observed not to be stored in a locked place. Evidence: The asthma medication for Child #1 was stored in a gym bag that was shelved inside an unlocked desk in the lobby. Plan of Correction: Corrected during inspection.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-540-A Description: During an inspection of the first aid kit and supplies today, some items were observed to missing. Evidence: There was only one triangular bandage available, and there were no ice packs as required. Plan of Correction: The ice pack was recently used for an adult. It will be replaced. We will purchased a triangular bandage for each first aid kit.
