Discussion on subsidy training for providers that accept subsidy.

Comments:
Today an unannounced Renewal Inspection was conducted with the Director- Kirstin Baker. This visit took place in the morning between 9:30am and 12:15pm which included the exit interview . There were 8 classrooms observed with a total of 88 children with 20 staff within the supervision guidelines. The children were observed playing on the playground, free play and circle time. School age children were participating in a fishing activity. Snack today consisted of grapes and cereal. A complete inspection of the physical plant, children and staff records, fire drill log, medication and emergency procedures were observed during this inspection. Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A
Description: Based on observation of physical plant, areas of the center are not maintained in a clean, safe and operable condition. Evidence: The vent located in the school age classroom has a corner of metal that is bent and sharp. Several staples were found accessible to children in care in the toddler classroom. The faucet in the intermediate classroom has come loose and not maintained. The base molding in the bathroom in the 3's and 4's classroom was broken and not maintained in good repair. A bolt on the playground set was found protruding causing a tripping hazard. The metal fencing on the playground was not attached at the top. A metal bracket for the downspout on the playground for the toddlers was broken and found to have sharp edges. Tile in the school age classroom was missing in some areas and cracked in some areas.

Plan of Correction: Director will request all repairs to be completed by maintenance. Plans for the tile replacement is in progress. Staples were immediately removed from the classroom.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B
Description: Based on observation of physical plant, hazardous substances found accessible to children in care. Evidence: The laundry closet located outside the Pre-K room was found unlocked and contained cleaning supplies.

Plan of Correction: Director contacted corporate maintenance and requested a new locking mechanism for the laundry door. Cleaning agents will be removed and relocated to an area not accessible to children in care.
