Technical Assistance:

The licensing inspector conducted an unannounced renewal inspection on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 from 10:50 am to 1:18 pm to determine the center's compliance with licensing standards. During this inspection, the Director was present and accompanied and assisted the licensing inspector throughout this inspection. The children were observed by the licensing inspector in the various classroom settings. The census for today's inspection consisted of 46 children. The staff to child ratios were deemed in compliance with licensing standards. The licensing inspector observed the children in their classroom settings working on a variety of activities to include: playing in centers, completing puzzles, working on the letter P, painting, lining up in the classroom to go outside to the playground area, and engaged in free play with peers and staff. The staff were observed by the licensing inspector providing age appropriate supervision and addressing the children's overall needs. Interviews were held with staff throughout the inspection. Additionally, when appropriate the inspector interacted with children in each classroom. There were also various activities and artwork of the children's displayed in the classroom settings. The classrooms were equipped with age appropriate toys, and supplies. All classrooms and playgrounds were inspected today. The school aged children were not present during this inspection. The children's lunch today consisted of chicken noodle soup, french fries, peas, diced pears, crackers, and milk. During this inspection, the required postings were reviewed and determined to be in compliance. The following information was reviewed: daily attendance, emergency supplies, injury reports, fire and shelter-in-place drills, liability insurance policy, and emergency preparedness plan. The emergency preparedness plan was reviewed on 11/21/16. Medication is being administered, medications, and written authorizations were reviewed for the center's compliance. There were four children?s records and five staff's records reviewed during this inspection. The center provides parent-teacher conferences twice per month.
The center's first aid kit and emergency supplies were inspected.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-140-B
Description: Based on review of four children's records, the center did not ensure one record had completed documentation of a physical examination obtained within 30 days of the initial start date.

Evidence: The record of child#3 (first day: 09/06/16) did not contain a physical examination document. A complete document of a physical examination shall be obtained within 30 days of the initial start date.

Plan of Correction: Per the center: I contacted the parent; the school was called and faxed it over. The physical was received and placed in child's folder.
