Technical Assistance:
Today we discussed documentation of first aid and CPR and MAT training.

Comments:
An unannounced renewal inspection of the child day center and records was conducted from 11:15am through 1:00pm. There were 16 children present with two teaching staff. Children's records and staff emergency contact information was reviewed. Staff records are housed at a central location and will be reviewed at a later date. Children were observed in teacher and self-directed activities including circle time/story, transitions, and restroom routines and lunch. The inspector reviewed documentation for emergency evacuation drills, menus, fire and health inspections and required postings. The site coordinator reports that there is not any medication being administered to children in care. Violations regarding a child's record, emergency evacuation documentation and first aid kit may be viewed on the violation notice.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-60-A
Description: Based on record review and interview the center failed to ensure that each child's record contains all required information. Evidence: 1 - The record for child 1 does not contain documentation of first date of attendance. a. Child 1 was present for care in the afternoon session today. 2 - Staff 1 stated that she would have to obtain the information from the case manager.

Plan of Correction: Site coordinator will obtain the information from the case manager.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-540-C
Description: Based on observation and interview the center failed to ensure that first kits contain all required items. Evidence: 1 - The first aid kit on bus used to transport children in care does not have any triangular bandages. 2 - Staff 2 stated that there were not any triangular bandages available on the bus.

Plan of Correction: The bus driver will obtain triangular bandages for the bus first aid kit.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-550-E
Description: Based on record review and interview the center failed to ensure that a record of practice drills in maintained for one year as required. Evidence: 1 - The posted documentation for emergency evacuation drills does not include information regarding shelter-in-place drills. 2 - The documentation for previous year's emergency evacuation drills is not available. 2 - The site coordinator stated that she was unaware that she needed to maintain the documentation of drills completed in the previous year.

Plan of Correction: The site coordinator will maintain emergency evacuation drills and shelter-in-place drills for one year as required.
