Thank you for your assistance during this unannounced renewal inspection. This on-site visit was conducted on February 21, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. through 2:00 p.m. On this date, there were one-hundred three (103) children in the care of sixteen (16) staff members. There are a total of one-hundred six (106) enrolled in this program. Five (5) children's records were reviewed. Eleven (11) staff records were reviewed and updated on February 17, 2017 at Bright Beginnings Corporate office. The medication and medication paperwork was reviewed for two children. Areas of non-compliance may be found on the violation notice. Risk scores were discussed. Areas observed were outside play, story time, infant feeding and nap, hand washing/bathroom and diapering procedures, transition, lunch and nap. All interactions between staff and children were appropriate and the children seemed comfortable with the daily routine. There are a wide variety of age/stage materials for the children in care. Children's artwork is displayed throughout the center. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-140-A Description: Child E did not have documentation of obtaining a physical. Evidence: Based on record review and discussion with the director, it was confirmed Child E did not have documentation of obtaining a physical. Plan of Correction: The parent was called and will obtain a physical. Documentation will be placed in the child's folder.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-560-F Description: Lunch served to the children in care did not follow USDA requirements. Children 3 through 5 years of age are required to have a 1/2 cup of fruit and or vegetable and 3/4 cup of milk for lunch. Evidence: Based on observation and discussion with the director, it was confirmed the lunch servings did not meet USDA requirements. Lunch for purchase by children consisted of pizza, mixed vegetables, fruit and milk. Fruit, vegetables and milk were measured and served in a two-ounce Dixie cup to children ages 3-5 years. Plan of Correction: Measuring cups will be used to serve food to children to ensure the required USDA guidelines are being followed.
