Technical Assistance:
As discussed, director indicated plans to order additional outdoor toys and supplies for playgrounds. Also discussed plans for ordering additional program supplies for the school age classroom.

Comments:
Today an unannounced Monitoring Inspection was conducted with the Director- at the KinderCare in Herndon, Virginia. This visit took place in the morning and afternoon between 10:15am and 2:00pm. There were 6 classrooms observed with a total of 28 children with 6 staff within the supervision guidelines. The children were observed eating snacks, transitioning from outdoor play to indoors, hand washing procedures observed, having story time, and preparing for lunch which consisted of oranges, burritos with cheese, carrots and peas, and milk. A complete inspection of the physical plant, children and staff records, fire drill log, no medications on site at this time, however MAT training was verified. Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A
Description: Based on observation of physical plant, areas and equipment of the center, inside and outside, were not maintained in a clean, safe and operable condition. Evidence: Two screens located on the toddler playground had sharp edges within reach of the children in care. A Tic-Tac-Toe board on the school age playground had two 2 inch rusted cracks on the pole of the equipment. On the preschool playground, there were four bikes observed with rust and peeling paint. An air vent in the school age room was observed to be covered with dust, this vent is accessible to the children in care.

Plan of Correction: I am putting in work orders today. They will come and remove or fix the equipment. I will have the air vent cleaned today.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-500-B
Description: Based on observation, the diapering area in the infant room was found no longer nonabsorbent. Evidence: The diaper changing mat had a crack and was determined no longer nonabsorbent.

Plan of Correction: I will replace the diaper mat.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-520-C
Description: Based on observation, a diaper ointment used did not meet the requirements. Evidence: A diaper ointment in the infant room was found in a cabinet accessible to children. The cabinet was unlocked.

Plan of Correction: Corrected at the time of inspection. Ointment was removed and placed in an area inaccessible to children.
