An initial inspection was conducted today. No children are in care, thus those standards regarding the care and supervision of children were not reviewed. Written parent and staff policies were reviewed. The physical plant and playground space was measured and inspected. The facility approved space consists of 7 designated spaces for child care and an outdoor fenced in play space. There is also a foyer, one office, and a kitchen in the building. The, classroom capacity is calculated based on 35 square feet per child. Measurements of classrooms will allow the capacity of 36. The director holds an Associates Degree in Early Childhood Development and has ran a home day care for 7 years. The outside play space is a grassy area enclosed by fencing. There was one violation cited at this inspection which was discussed with the director at the conclusion of this inspection and is detailed in the violation notice. Any areas of standards related to direct service that were not determined during the initial inspection will be determined at the first unannounced inspection following the issuance of a license. All future inspections will be unannounced. The first unannounced inspection will be conducted within 60 days from the date the license is issued. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A Description: Based on observation it was determined that the center did not ensure that all areas of the center, inside and outside, shall be maintained in a clean, safe and operable condition. Evidence: On the outdoor play space there was loose screws, building insulation, trash, pieces of wood, and a 5'x1.5" tree root sticking up from the ground that present potential injury and tripping hazards. Plan of Correction: Director picked up most of the debris during the inspection and will clean up the remainder this evening. Director will cover the tree root. Receptionist will perform am safety check daily before children go out.
