Comments:
An unannounced Subsidy Inspection was conducted this afternoon. There were 50 children present in five classes during the inspection. I observed children busy outdoors, playing in classrooms and engaged in activities. If you have any questions, please contact me at brenda.kuhlman@dss.virginia.gov

Violations:
Standard #: VENDSUB-000-033-F
Description: Based on direct observation during the inspection today, staff supervising children did not observe awareness of food allergies for a child in the classroom. Evidence: An allergy action plan posted in the center indicated a known nut allergy for Child # 1 and Child # 2, but staff did not remove a nut-based food from the room while Child # 1 was present. The food was in an unsealed plastic/paper container and consisted of breadsticks and a hazelnut spread, and was visible where it was stored in a child's cubby. Staff # 1 and #2 reported that another child brought it from home. It was taken from that child and placed in the cubby.

Plan of Correction: Staff were re-trained on allergy sensitivities today; and the parent will be talked to tonight. We will make signs to remind visitors of foods that they may not realize are allergies. The food was removed immediately and placed in the outside trash.
