Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today, May 22, 2017 to determine the center's compliance with licensing standards. The inspector arrived at 10:00 am and concluded the inspection at 12:30 pm. Upon the inspector's arrival children were observed in a variety of activities. The toddlers were playing with balls in the school age classroom/ gym. The two year old class was observed listening to a story and working puzzles. The pre-school children were engaged in watching a leap frog video that reviewed letter sounds. After the video children practiced identifying and writing the letters of the alphabet. The prekindergarten class also watched a leap frog video focusing on numbers. The story "The Big Fat Hen" was read and children identified the parts of the book, counted the items listed in the story and identified numbers. Later lunch and nap time were observed in all classrooms. Children provide their own meals which we labeled with names and dates. All areas of the center were inspected to include classrooms, the indoor climbing equipment, bathrooms, and the school bus. The play grounds were not inspected due to inclement weather. The classrooms have a variety of learning centers that consisted of science, books, housekeeping, manipulative, puzzles, art and blocks. Classrooms had age and stage appropriate materials and were decorated with children's art work and seasonal decorations. Staff interactions were positive and encouraged team work. The center's first aid kit and non-medical emergency supplies were inspected for both the building and the bus. The license, daily schedule, emergency evacuation maps, emergency numbers and various parent information were posted. The inspectors interacted with staff and children during the inspection.

Three staff records and four children's records were reviewed.
Per the Director, medication is not being administered at this time. Multiple staff have current MAT, CPR, First aid and daily health observation training.
The last evacuation drill was conducted on 04/21/2017. One of the two required shelter-in-place drill for the current year was documented on 04/0/2017. A second drill will need to be completed by the end of the calendar year.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B
Description: Based on observations, the facility did not ensure hazardous substances such as cleaning materials were kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children in care. Evidence: A container of disinfectant wipes were observed on the half wall in the school age classroom along with a spray bottle of sanitizer that was on the shelf of an unlocked and open cabinet.

Plan of Correction: Per the Director: A party was held in the school age room over the weekend and must have left the cleaning materials out. Staff will keep cleaning materials locked in the kitchen area away from children. Staff will check each morning.
