22VAC40-185 SPECIAL CARE PROVISIONS AND EMERGENCIES.
Complaint # 47625 An unannounced complaint investigation was took place at the school on 5/18/2017. Records were reviewed and staff were interviewed. The following standard was reviewed as part of this investigation, and found to be in violation: 490 B: Special care provisions - exclusions for illness. During the course of the inspection, two other standards were found to not be in compliance with licensing standards. 50 A: Confidential records 510 J: Medication observed in an unlocked area in the office. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-50-A Complaint related: Yes Description: Not part of the complaint but found during the inspection. During today's inspection, staff and child records were observed to not be treated confidentially as required. Evidence: Staff were unable to locate both Child # 1 and Child # 2's enrollment information, physical exams, immunizations and signed agreements. Some files were observed on the floor of the office when no staff were present. Other records stored in a file cabinet were in a utility closet that was observed not to be locked. Additionally, a file cabinet in the adult bathroom with older files was unlocked during the inspection. Plan of Correction: Not available online. Contact Inspector for more information.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-490-B Complaint related: Yes Description: Based on a review of records and interviews, it was determined that two children were not excluded to prevent the spread of disease and the children were not placed in a designated quiet area until leaving the center. Evidence: Child # 1 was reported by staff to have a temperature recorded of 101.2 degrees at 3:30 pm on 5/9/17. The child remained in the classroom. Although the parent was notified, the child was not placed in a separate quiet area designated for ill children as required until she was picked up. There was documentation in the child's file of a history of strep throat and pneumonia. Child # 2 was reported by staff to have a thick, green discharge from his ear on 5/11/17. The child remained in the classroom. The child was not placed in a separate quiet area designated for ill children as required. Plan of Correction: Not available online. During today's inspection, medication was observed to be stored in an unlocked area. Evidence: A bottle of over-the-counter medication was observed on a shelf in the office during the inspection. Plan of Correction: It was locked during the inspection.
