Technical Assistance:
Today we discussed resilient surface, resilient surface maintenance plans and including children with special needs.

Comments:
An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted today from 9:30am through 12:45pm. There were 34 children in care, ages six weeks through eight years old. There were six staff and two center managers present during the inspection. Children and staff records were reviewed. Children were observed in teacher and self-directed activities. A special "dance party" activity was a part of today's schedule for the preschoolers through school age children. Violations in the areas of administration and physical plant were observed and appear on the violation notice.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-330-B
Description: Based on observation and interview the center failed to ensure that resilient surface is under equipment with moving parts or climbing apparatus. Evidence: 1 - There is grass, weeds and tree seedlings growing up through the resilient surface on both playgrounds in the fall zone, under, next to and around the climbing equipment. Greenery growing through the resilient surface negates the resiliency of the surface. 2 - Staff 1 confirmed that there is grass, weeks and tree seedlings growing up through the resilient surface.

Plan of Correction: This was corrected on 8/16/17. Opening teachers will complete the daily playground checklist and ensure any deficiencies are reported to management immediately. Management will ensure proper steps are taken to correct within 24 hours. Safety captain will inspect daily. Management will inspect periodically. DM will inspect on routine visits.
