Technical Assistance:
The licensing inspector and center management discussed the current and upcoming changes to background clearances.

Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on Tuesday, August 22, 2017. Some, but not all, licensing standards were inspected. The following classroom staff to child ratios were observed:
Infants: Six infants/toddlers with two staff were inside having bottles, eating lunch and receiving individual attention.
Infants: Eight infant/toddlers were outside having a buggy ride with three staff.
Bumblebees - two years - Eight children with two staff were playing in housekeeping/dramatic play, racing cars, and looking at books.
Bumblebees - Five children with one staff were in the back portion of the classroom coloring "Russian Stacking Dolls".
3/4 Year Old- Twenty-two children with four staff building with legos, reading books, learning words that start with the letter "Yy".
Pre-K: Eleven children with two staff outside listening to a "farmer" discussing annual and perennial plants.
The children had planted a garden that contained tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, lettuce and various herbs.
Lunch: Ham and cheese sandwich, green beans, fresh blueberries and milk
The last practice evacuation drill was completed 7/10/17.
Ten children's records and ten staff records were inspected. Two medications present at the center today were checked.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A
Description: Based on inspection of the facility, the center did not ensure all areas and equipment were maintained in a clean, safe and operable condition.
Evidence:
There are two paper towel holders in the Pre-K classroom that are rusted.

Plan of Correction: Per Center: The holders will be immediately removed. New holders will be placed in each bathroom in the Pre-K classroom.

Standard #: 22VAC40-191-40-D-1-C
Description: Based on review of staff records, the center did not ensure all staff completed background clearances before three years since the dates of the last report.
Evidence:
Out of ten staff records inspected, Staff #2's Central Registry Clearance expired 2/26/17.

Plan of Correction: Per Center: Management called CPS today and there had been an error made on the form received by their office 3/17/17. A new Central Registry form will be completed for Staff #2 and sent immediately.
