- Technical Assistance:
We discussed ways to clarify changes in medications; and making the full first aid kit more accessible to staff on a more reachable shelf. We also discussed supervision between playground and indoors for children's bathroom breaks.
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today from 3:45 - 5:25 pm. There were 31 children present with 3 staff at the beginning of the inspection. I observed children eating snack, dividing into learning centers, involved in dramatic role-playing and going outdoors. If you have any questions, please contact me at brenda.kuhlman@dss,virginia.gov
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B Description: Based on observation during today's inspection, a hazardous substance was observed to not be kept in a locked place that prevents access to children. Evidence: In the music room, a bottle of dry erase marker spray was accessible at child height on a shelf under the whiteboard when children were present today. Plan of Correction: I will speak with the music teacher and remind her that it can be locked up in our cabinet or her cabinet.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-340-A Description: Based on observation and staff confirmation during today's inspection, the staff did not ensure the care and protection of children when an allergen was found to be accessible. Evidence: A child in care who is diagnosed with an allergy to tree nuts was in class this morning when different candies containing nuts (Snickers, M&M peanut, etc.) were observed in a decorative glass jar on the staff desk. Additionally, a can of almonds was observed in a closet where staff cooking materials were observed to be stored for the class. Plan of Correction: The nut products will be removed from the shelf and I will remind all the teachers to be aware of what we are bringing into the center, and the Candy-guessing jar will be filled with nut-free products; and teachers' chocolates will be removed from the top of the desk today.
A compliance history is in no way a rating for a facility.

In addition, the online compliance history includes information regarding adverse actions that may be the subject of a pending appeal. An adverse action is not final until a provider has exhausted or waived all due process rights.
