Reviewed all current and upcoming changes to background check procedures. All future information regarding background checks will only be distributed via email.
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today. There were 40 children in care, with a total of 4 staff members assigned to their direct supervision. In addition, three co-op parent volunteers were observed fully participating with children in each classroom. Children's records, staff/parent records, children's medications, emergency preparedness items, staff training records, and the physical plant were inspected today. The children were observed eating snack, playing outside, attending music class, creating theme based art projects, engaging in free choice activities, creating playdoh families, and building with tower blocks. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-80-A Description: Based on a review of administrative records, it was determined that one classroom did not keep a written record of attendance yesterday. Evidence: One classroom did not document their written attendance on 11/13/17. Plan of Correction: The attendance will be recorded daily.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-330-B Description: Based on observations, it was determined that there is not an adequate amount of resilient surfacing in several fall zone areas on the playground. Evidence: There is not enough mulch in the following fall zones: beneath the swings, beneath the dome climber, and at the bottom of the twist slide. In these areas, the mulch is lower than 6 inches. Plan of Correction: We will distribute additional mulch where needed.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-500-A Description: Based on observations, it was determined that one staff person did not wash her hands after completing diaper changes for two children. Evidence: The Inspector observed a co-op classroom parent complete two children's diaper changes. This parent did not wash her hands after either diaper change. Plan of Correction: All staff and co-op classroom parents will be reminded of the handwashing requirements and procedures.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-A Description: Based on a review of children's medications, it was determined that one medication was on site without the required documentation. Evidence: One child's prescription medication was on site without an authorization form signed by the parent and physician. Plan of Correction: The child no longer needs the medication. It will be sent home when she returns to school tomorrow.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-C Description: Based on a review of children's medications, it was determined that one medication has expired. Evidence: One child's prescription medication expired on 10/31/17. Plan of Correction: The parent will be asked to bring a new medication.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-550-D Description: Based on a review of emergency preparedness documents, it was determined that two classes did not conduct fire evacuation drills during the month of October. Evidence: The Blue and Red classes did not conduct a fire evacuation drill during the month of October, 2017. Plan of Correction: All classes will remember to do a fire drill every month.
