A training resource was provided regarding Suspected Child Abuse on the Department of Social Services website.

The Licensing Inspector conducted an investigation in response to a self reported incident regarding behavioral guidance on 11/02/2017. Interviews were conducted with staff and staff training record reviewed. The information gathered during this investigation supports the allegation; the violation was discussed with the center director. Please return a signed and dated copy to the licensing office within 5 calendar days of receipt. If you have any questions you may contact me at 571-835-0386..

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-400-B
Description: Based on interview, behavioral guidance was not constructive in nature, age and stage appropriate to redirect children to appropriate behavior and resolve conflicts. Evidence: 1. Staff member A admitted that she pretended to bite Child A (15 month old) by grabbing his finger and placing her lips around the child's finger after Child A had tried to bite Child B(15 month old). Staff member A then stated to the child "It hurts if you do that."

Plan of Correction: I plan to have a mandatory staff meeting on Monday to go over Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention and Reporting Policy OP-250 and Guidance, Protection of and Respect for Children OP-300. I also plan to utilize the training on the website on Child Abuse and Neglect: Recognizing, Responding, Reporting for Educators.

The online compliance history includes only information after July 1, 2003. In addition, the online compliance history includes information regarding adverse actions that may be the subject of a pending appeal. An adverse action is not final until a provider has exhausted or waived all due process rights. For compliance history prior to July 1, 2003, or information regarding the status of pending adverse actions, please contact the Licensing Inspector listed in the facility's information. The Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) is not responsible for any errors in or omissions from the compliance history information.
