An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted from 10:45 am-1:00pm. There were 103 children in direct care of 15 staff members. Children were observed during learning spanish, making smoothies in the cooking class, playing outside on the playground and getting ready for lunch. There was a musical/singing event at the school for the primary group. The center had an ample supply of material for the children to use. Staff to children interaction was positive. A selection of staff and children records, medications and evacuation drill records were reviewed. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the violation notice. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B Description: Based on observation, hazardous substances were not kept in a locked space. Evidence: 1. In room #2 that comprises of children ages 3-6, there were bottles of metal and wood polish, hydrogen peroxide and adhesive remover stored in the cabinet under the sink. 2. The cabinet was not locked making the bottles accessible to the children. 3. The labels for the bottles indicate the need to keep these substances out of the reach of children as they are considered hazardous materials. Plan of Correction: We will remove the items or lock the cabinet.
Standard #: 22VAC40-191-60-B Description: Based on record review, center employed staff that did not complete the sworn statement (SS). Evidence: 1. Staff # 1's hire date was 8/28/17. 2. Staff # 1 did not complete the updated SS form as required. The updated SS form became effective July 1, 2017 for all new employees. Plan of Correction: We will have the employee complete the new form.
