Reminded of completion of renewal application.
Today an unannounced Renewal Inspection was conducted between the hours of 9:35 am and 1:30 pm. There were 8 classrooms observed with a total of 95 children with 11 staff within the supervision guidelines. The children were observed playing in the city place, being fed bottles, painting and having circle time. A complete inspection of the physical plant, 5 children and 5 staff records, fire drill log, medication and emergency procedures were observed during this inspection. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-260-A Description: Based on record review, the center did not obtain an annual fire inspection from a fire official. Evidence: The center's fire permit had expired on 9/30/2017. Plan of Correction: We have sent everything in for our permit, we will schedule a visit soon.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-290-3 Description: Based on observation, outlet protective covers were not used. Evidence: One unused outlet in the Pre-K B classroom did not have a protective cover. Plan of Correction: This was corrected during the inspection.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-320-B Description: Based on observation, the children's bathroom in the Preschool I classroom did not contain all of the required supplies. Evidence: The paper towel dispenser in the bathroom was empty. Plan of Correction: We will replace it today.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-500-B Description: Based on observation, diapers were not disposed in a leakproof or plastic-lined storage system. Evidence: There was a trash can in the Preschool I classroom that had a diaper disposed of in it; the trash can did not contain a liner. Plan of Correction: This was corrected during the inspection.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-A Description: Based on observation and interview, over-the-counter medication is kept on-site without parental authorization to administer. Evidence: Gas relief drops were observed in one classroom. The teacher in the classroom stated that she did not know where the medication came from. The center Director confirmed that there was not authorization for the medication. Plan of Correction: We will notify teachers and parents of the proper process for medication. These parents can pick this up today.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-560-G Description: Based on observation and interview, food brought from home was not labeled with today's date. Evidence: In the refrigerator of the Toddler classroom, there as a container of snacks for Child #5 which was dated 1/24/17. Plan of Correction: This was corrected during the inspection. We will remind parents and teachers of proper labeling.
