Discussed current background check regulations with the director.
An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted today from 11:00am-2:00pm. At the time of inspection, 53 children (three years through five years) were directly supervised by 8 staff and ratios were in compliance. The sample size consisted of 5 children records and 6 staff records. Children were observed participating in group play, reading books, having a nutritious lunch (hamburgers, sweet potatoes, green beans, oranges and milk), and preparing for naptime. Hand-washing procedures were also observed before eating and after using the restroom. There was an abundant supply of new materials for the children. There was an adequate number of staff with current certification in medication administration, CPR and First Aid, as well as daily health observation training. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-320-B Description: Based on observation, the water temperature at two sinks exceeded 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Evidence: In Preschool A and Preschool B, the water from two sinks measured above 130 degrees Fahrenheit with a digital thermometer. Plan of Correction: An emergency work order was placed at 12:30pm during the inspection.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-N Description: Based on review of medications, two medications were not returned to parents or disposed of within 14 days of the medication authorization expiration. Evidence: 1. Child #1 had a medication authorization that expired on June 30, 2017. The child is no longer in care at the center. 2. Child #2 had a medication that expired in November 2017. A replacement medication is at the center, however, the outdated medication was not disposed of within the 14 days. Plan of Correction: They have been removed and we will begin doing weekly audits to check dates.
Standard #: 22VAC40-191-60-C-2 Description: Based on review of six staff records, the center did not have an original central registry report within 30 days of employment of a staff member. Evidence: Staff #1 had a central registry mailed on March 1, 2017. The center did not complete follow-up to receive a qualifying central registry report. Plan of Correction: We will resend the central registry check. The staff member will not be working as a classroom teacher until we receive the background check.
