An exit meeting was completed by the licensing inspector with the center's director to review today's inspection findings.
The licensing inspector conducted an unannounced monitoring inspection on Monday, March 5, 2018 from approximately 10:00 am to 12:00 pm to determine the center's compliance with licensing standards. During this inspection, the preschool's director was present and accompanied the licensing inspector throughout this inspection. The census for today's inspection consisted of 42 children. The program's theme for this week is Dinosaur and the letter D. The licensing inspector completed observation of the children in the various classroom settings. The licensing inspector completed observations of the Pre-K children participating in various activities to include sitting at the table eating their snack with peers, reading books, preparing to transition to the outdoor playground, engaged in circle time reading with staff, and playing outside on the playground equipment. The children's snacks are sent from home and the licensing inspector observed children's snack properly labeled in compliance with licensing standards. A formal observation was completed by the licensing inspector of the children in care transitioning from snack time, interacting with peers and staff, reading books on the carpet, discussing reaching 100 days of school, and participating in circle time while the staff read the story, "The Watermelon Seed." The children in the Twos group were observed by the inspector engaged in center activities with staff and playing with age appropriate toys with peers. The licensing inspector interacted with the staff and children throughout the inspection when appropriate. The classrooms were equipped with age appropriate toys, and materials to meet the children's stages of development. There were also a variety of activities and artwork of the children's displayed in the classrooms and throughout the hallway at the center. During this inspection, the classrooms, bathrooms, supply areas, and playground and equipment were inspected. The licensing inspector completed some observations of parent pick up at the program. The staff were observed providing adequate supervision and addressing the children's overall needs. During this inspection, the required postings were reviewed and determined to be in compliance. The following information was reviewed: daily attendance, license, recent inspection summary, incident reports, and fire and health inspections. Medication is being administered, medications, and written authorizations were reviewed for the program's compliance. There were five children?s records and four employee's records reviewed during this inspection. During this inspection, some licensing standards were reviewed but not all of the standards. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-C Description: Based on review of medications, the center did not ensure all procedures for giving medication were followed.
Evidence: Child#1's medications were reviewed and the MAT document was start date 01/30/17 and expiry date 1/30/18. Long-term prescription drug use and over-the-counter medication may be allowed with written authorization from the child's physician and parent.
Plan of Correction: The program director has contacted the parent already to obtained a completed/updated medication administration document from the physician.
