An exit interview was conducted with the director to discuss the results of today's inspection. Consultation was given regarding updated background check regulations.
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today, March 13, 2018 to determine the center's compliance with licensing standards. The inspection was initiated at 3:17pm and concluded at 5:45pm. Upon arrival, the following ratios were observed:
Suite 100, infants: 5 infants/ 2 staff
Suite 150, infants: 7 infants/ 2 staff
Suite 200, toddlers: 8 children/ 2 staff
Suite 250, toddlers: 10 children/ 2 staff
Suite 300, 2 year olds: 8 children/ 2 staff
Suite 400, 3 year olds: 7 children/ 2 staff
Suite 450, 3 year olds: 10 children/ 2 staff
Suite 500, 4 & 5 year olds: 7 children/ 1 staff
School age area: 17 children/ 2 staff
Children were observed washing their hands in preparation for snack, eating snack (broccoli & carrots w/ ranch dip and 100% fruit juice), interacting with staff, and playing with toys/games. Children's books, toys, and equipment were inspected and found to be age appropriate and in operable condition. All classrooms were inspected to include main hallways and children's restrooms. Due to yesterday's inclement weather (snow), the outdoor playground was not inspected.
The center had the required postings displayed upon entering the building and in children's classrooms. The center's first aid kit and emergency supplies were inspected with additional supplies found. Annual health and fire inspections were reviewed and found to be updated. Ten children's records and three staff records were inspected with the required information found. The following was also inspected on this day: medication authorizations/ log, MAT certifications, parent agreements, parent handbook, and other pertinent information.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A Description: Based on the inspection of the building, an inside area was not maintained in a safe condition. Evidence: During the inspection of the building, chipped paint was found in multiple areas of the lower gymnasium wall. Licensing standards require areas and equipment of the center, inside and outside, to be maintained in a clean, safe and operable condition. Unsafe conditions include, but not be limited to, splintered, cracked or otherwise deteriorating wood; chipped or peeling paint; visible cracks, bending or warping, rusting or breakage of any equipment; head entrapment hazards; and protruding nails, bolts or other components that could entangle clothing or snag skin. Plan of Correction: Per director: I will have the gymnasium areas repainted by this weekend.
