Comments:
This visit took place in the morning between 7:30am-9:40 there were 46 children with 4 staff within the supervision guidelines. The children were observed having morning free play, arriving to morning sacc, painting, actively engaged in self-selected activities such as building with wood, and dismissal to class. Positive interactions were observed during this inspection. A complete inspection of the physical plant, children and staff records, fire drill log, attendance and emergency procedures and medications were observed during this inspection.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-400-B
Description: Based on observation, a staff member did not provide behavioral guidance that is constructive in nature and age and stage appropriate to redirect children to appropriate behavior. Evidence: Staff #1 was observed grabbing a child by the arm/shoulder in a attempt to redirect the child to an appropriate behavior.

Plan of Correction: Center Supervisor modeled positive was to redirect children to appropriate behaviors. Staff will also explore training and other solutions.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-430-C
Description: Based on observation of the classroom, a wood clamp was found with a sharp points, shearing points, or pinch points. Evidence: Upon arrival, a wood clamp was found on the desk with a sharp edge/end accessible to children.

Plan of Correction: Staff immediately removed the the wood clamp and placed it in a closet. Staff stated that they will place a soft cushion on the edge to prevent the edge from being sharp.
