22VAC40-191 Background Checks (22VAC40-191)
- Technical Assistance:
Technical assistance today included staff recognition of potential illness/side effects of medication. A child was observed to be present with an unusual symptom. We also talked about ratios during naptime, keeping areas locked and medications authorizations.
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today from 1:45 - 4:45 pm. There were 84 children in 7 classes present at the beginning of the inspection. I observed naptime, snack time and afternoon activities. If you have any questions, please contact me at email@example.com
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A Description: Based on observation during today's inspection, some area and equipment were found to not be maintained in a clean, safe and/or operable condition. Evidence: Outdoors: A resilient-type tile had been moved, creating a gap causing a tripping hazard. Indoors: Two diapering areas were observed to have cracked plastic on the corners of the diapering table. Tape had already been used to cover one area but it was not effective for sanitizing the area. Areas of chipping paint were observed at child height in several classrooms - where cots are stored, under shelves, and near a sink and dramatic play area. The vent in one classroom was observed to be noticeably very grimy. The laundry closet was observed to be opened, with use laundry packets on the floor and trash. Plan of Correction: We will request are placement or a repair, and block off the area in the meantime. Work orders have been put in for the changing tables to be replaced. We will put in a work order to take care of chipping paint and the vent. We will request that a lock is installed on the laundry room.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-350-D Description: Based on observation today, the ratio to staff and children for age 4 (10:1) did not meet the requirements for doubling at naptime. Evidence: Although it was naptime, there were 15 children observed to be awake, active and in motion in the four year old class when one staff was supervising. Approximately four were observed to be sleeping or resting quietly. Plan of Correction: Another staff was sent in to supervise.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-500-B Description: Based on observation during today's inspection, a diapering surface was used for something other than diaper or cleaning children. Evidence: After nap in one classroom, a trash bag with used diapers was observed to be sitting on the diapering table while staff were busy with children in the bathroom and getting ready for snack. Plan of Correction: We will re-train staff including disposal of used diapers. We will move the infant trash can into the room today.
