Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today between 7:45am and 9:30am. Upon arrival, 10 students were directly supervised by 7 staff members. Ratios were in compliance and remained in compliance as parents began to arrive with their children for the event. Staff were preparing for "Family Friday" (family breakfast celebrating The Week of the Young Child). The menu for the breakfast included waffles, cinnamon toast, raison toast, various sausages, jam, syrup, butter & organic juice. The fruit salad was to be served by the children to their family members. The physical space, 5 staff records, 5 children's records, emergency supplies, attendance records, evacuation drills and the menu were reviewed. Required documents were posted. The space was organized and contained an abundance of developmentally appropriate materials. Process oriented artwork was displayed throughout the center. Recycled items were used to create cherry blossom trees. Children were observed in small group activities, assisting staff members with preparation, interacting with parents and interacting with staff. Interactions were positive. No violations were cited today. For questions regarding this inspection, please contact stephanie.salvatori@dss.virginia.gov.
