Technical Assistance:
Technical assistance today included physical environment, to include a designated space away from the door in the infant area; placement of staff belongings, record keeping and background check updates. We also discussed balancing safety policies for groups of children on the playground with opportunities for independence and exploration.

Comments:
An unannounced renewal inspection took place today from 10:15 am - 1:45 pm. There were five classes present with 47 children present. All rooms were within ratio, and school-agers will arrive later. I observed children busy digging in a table filled with soil and plastic flowers; working with puzzles; listening to a story about spring; singing; playing outdoors, eating lunch and beginning naptime. Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A
Description: Based on observation and staff confirmation during today's inspection, there were some areas/equipment of the center that were found not to be maintained in a safe and operable condition. Indoors: A plastic lucite paper dispenser used to cut diaper table paper and placed on the diaper table today was observed to be cracked in several areas, with a sharp edge exposed. Outdoors: 1. The plastic retention barrier which encircles the area of the plastic slide structure was observed to have a large rectangular hole in it. A nearby bolt was exposed where it could pose an entrapment hazard. 2. Two trikes were observed to each have a regular handlebar cover had been covered by tape where the regular handbar covers were missing. 3. In some ground areas, plastic netting from sod was exposed, posing a tripping hazard. Bus: Bus # 28285 was observed today to have a bumper on the left side coming off approximately 4-5 inches from back of the bus.

Plan of Correction: Indoors: The object was removed today. I will remind staff to communicate when things are broken. Outdoors: 1) I already put in a work order and will follow up with Facilities. 2) I will call the company to purchase new handlebars or discard them. 3) A work order will be put in today for the grounds. Bus: We will contact PHH in our corporate office.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-A
Description: Based on a review of children's medications onsite today, there was one that did not have a written authorization from a parent.' Evidence: The over the counter allergy medication authorization for Child # 2 had a physician's signature but no documentation of a parent authorization.

Plan of Correction: She will sign it tonight.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-540-C
Description: Based on a review of a first aid kit on one of the school busses today, not all required items were present. Evidence: There were no tweezers, ice pack, antiseptic cleaner or first aid instructional material available on the first bus.

Plan of Correction: Cold packs and alcohol packets were ordered today. Tweezers and first aid manuals were put on the busses today.
