Technical Assistance:
Inspector spoke with the Director about the updated background check regulations during this inspection.

Comments:
An unannounced monitoring visit and facility tour was conducted from 11:23 am-12:37 pm. At the time of inspectors' arrival there were 29 toddler to preschool aged children in care with 8 staff members and 1 administrator. Children were observed participating in instructional time in the classroom, indoor play, lunch, transitioning between activities, and toileting and hand washing. A sample of 5 children's records and 5 staff records were reviewed. Injury reports were also reviewed. The Director reported that no medications are given at the center at this time. Areas of noncompliance are detailed on the Violation Notice and were discussed with the Director at the conclusion of this inspection.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A
Description: Based on observation it was determined the center did not ensure that all areas and equipment of the center, inside and outside, were maintained in a safe and operable condition. Evidence: 1. There was a white shelving unit and book shelf in the the 2's room that was unstable as it rocked when pulled that presented a potential tipping hazard. 2. There were accessible plastic gloves in the bathroom and by the changing table at child height in the 2's room that presented potential choking/suffocation hazards. 3. In the 3-4's room there was a 4 shelved tall bookcase that was unstable as it rocked when pulled that presented a potential tipping hazard. 4. In the toddler classrooms there was exposed rust and peeling paint on the legs of 10 child sized chairs.

Plan of Correction: The furniture will be anchored 4/30/18. Gloves were moved during this inspection. Chairs will be repainted or replaced 5/7/18.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-290-3
Description: Based on observation it was determined the center did not ensure that all electrical outlets in areas with preschool aged children had protective covers. Evidence: There was an electrical outlet on the wall in the 2 year old room that did not have a protective cover.

Plan of Correction: The outlet was capped during this inspection.
