An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted today from 10:30am-12:30pm. At the time of inspection, 35 children (infants through five years) were directly supervised by 7 staff and ratios were in compliance. The sample size consisted of 5 children records and 4 staff records. Children were observed participating in group play, preparing for lunch, playing outside, and infants were observed interacting with staff. Diapering and hand-washing procedures were also observed. There was an abundant supply of materials for the children. Children's artwork and projects were displayed throughout the classrooms and hallways. The center is celebrating Mother's Day and Teacher Appreciate Week with various activities and projects. There was an adequate number of staff with current certification in medication administration, CPR and First Aid, as well as daily health observation training. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A
Description: Based on observation, the center did not maintain play equipment as required. Evidence: A tricycle was observed on the playground with a broken handle and rust.

Plan of Correction: The tricycle will be removed from the playground.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B
Description: Based on observation, potentially hazardous substances such as cleaning agents were stored in an area that was not inaccessible to children. Evidence: In the infant classroom, a cleaning agent was stored in an unlocked cabinet beneath the diaper changing area.

Plan of Correction: A lock will be ordered for the cabinet or the cleaner will be removed.
