Comments:
An unannounced renewal study was conducted today from 9:15am to 12pm. 68 children were directly supervised by 11 staff. Ratios were in compliance. The physical space, 8 children's records, 6 staff records, evacuation drills, the Emergency Preparedness Plan, annual training records, emergency supplies and medications were reviewed. Overall record keeping was in good order and medication procedures were in compliance. Required documents were posted. Much of the staff has remained consistent for a period of years. Infant bottles and food were labeled and the diaper changing procedures were observed. Staff were actively engaged with the children and interactions were positive. An abundance of age appropriate materials were available in each classroom. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the Violation Notice. For questions regarding this inspection, please contact stephanie.salvatori@dss.virginia.gov.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A
Description: Based on observation, the center did not maintain the outside area in a clean, safe and operable condition. Evidence: On the Toddler playground, the mulch eroded, exposing a concrete brick approximately 3ft by 1ft. In addition, the mulch on the Preschool/School age playground eroded to less than the required depth.

Plan of Correction: I have contacted our facilities department and someone came out to look at the playground on 05/25/2018. We will get the new mulch and address the area of the exposed brick as soon as possible.
