- Technical Assistance:
We discussed the requirements for diapering procedures. The risk assessment for a violation was provided.
We discussed your efforts to request the annual health inspection.
Thank you for your assistance during today's unannounced monitoring inspection conducted from 1:08 PM to 5:45 PM. This afternoon, there were sixty children, ages infancy through age three years, downstairs with nineteen staff and eighty-one children, ages two through five years, upstairs with thirteen staff. Fifteen school age children were expected to receive supervision with two staff for the evening. I viewed program activities, daily routines, snack, menu, staffing, supervision, interactions with children, diapering procedures, equipment, medication, emergency supplies and drill records, emergency planning, posted information, ten records for children, ten staff records, staff qualifications, staff training, agency inspection reports, injury records, indoor and outdoor areas. The children were provided age appropriate toys, equipment and materials. The staff were observed providing attentive supervision and positive interactions with the children in their group. The staff have provided oversight of children's pick-up procedures. Regular transportation has been provided to the center for school age children receiving care during the evening hours. Let me know if you have any questions. 540/430-9259
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-500-B Description: Based on observation of diapering procedures before afternoon snack, and an interview with staff, a wet diaper and used disposable wipes were disposed of in a container without opening the lid using the foot pedal mechanism or in such a way that prevented contact of the staff member's hands and/or diaper with the exterior of the container. Evidence: In EHS classroom 3, the staff member disposed of the used diaper and disposable wipes in the container by the opposite side of the bathroom doorway and hand lifted the lid to dispose of the items. The staff member indicated that the foot pedal mechanism does work and has been used during diaper changes. Plan of Correction: Administrative staff will review the procedure for disposing of used diapers and wipes with the staff member. Also, staff will be directed to place the disposal container near the diaper changing station before diaper changes so that the foot pedal is within reach as the used diaper is removed so that the diaper and all used items are immediately disposed of without trying to access the container later.
A compliance history is in no way a rating for a facility.
The online compliance history includes only information after July 1, 2003. In addition, the online compliance history includes information regarding adverse actions that may be the subject of a pending appeal. An adverse action is not final until a provider has exhausted or waived all due process rights. For compliance history prior to July 1, 2003, or information regarding the status of pending adverse actions, please contact the Licensing Inspector listed in the facility's information. The Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) is not responsible for any errors in or omissions from the compliance history information.
