The licensing inspector conducted an unannounced monitoring inspection on 06/01/2018 from 9:30am to 2:35pm. The children were observed playing with toys, playing on the playground, reading, exercising, and eating lunch. A formal observation was completed with the two and three year old classrooms. Lunch consisted of turkey and cheese sandwiches, mandarin oranges, mixed vegetables and milk. The menu was posted. Interviews were held with staff throughout the inspection, and the inspector interacted with children in each classroom when appropriate. All classrooms and playgrounds were inspected today. Eight children?s records and five employee records were reviewed during this inspection. Medication is being administered and was reviewed. Ten injury reports were reviewed as well as the center?s injury prevention plan which was updated 05/18/2018. The center's first aid kit and emergency supplies were inspected. Last emergency drill: 05/03/2018 Last shelter-in-place drill: 05/10/2018 Last fire inspection: 01/15/2018 Last health inspection: 12/15/2017 Today, the following child to staff ratios were observed: Infants - 7:2 Toddlers ? 8:2 Twos #1 - 15:2 Twos #2 - 12:2 Threes - 19:2 Fours ? 16:2 The violations from the previous inspections were checked for corrections. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A Description: Based on observation, the center did not ensure that areas and equipment of the center were maintained in a clean, safe and operable condition. Evidence: 1. There was a wooden post located on the toddler playground that contained pieces of sharp and splintering wood. 2. A metal beaded blind cord was hanging within reach of children in the two year old class and was not secured to the wall, presenting an entanglement hazard. Plan of Correction: Corrected during the inspection.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B Description: Based on observation, the center did not ensure that hazardous substances such as cleaning materials were kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children. Evidence: The kitchen contained unlocked cleaning products located on a shelf out of the reach of children. The kitchen door was unlocked. Plan of Correction: Corrected during the inspection.
